Veneers: More Than A Smile Makeover

In today’s society, white and straight teeth are not only a symbol of good personal hygiene, but also an important symbol of showing confidence and elegance.

Therefore, more and more people, especially young people, are willing to invest in improving the appearance of their teeth, and dental veneers have become one of the popular cosmetic dental options.

Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment that aims to improve the overall appearance by covering the surface of the teeth with a thin layer (mostly made of porcelain or composite resin) to modify discoloration, damage or slight unevenness.

The founder of Avisienna Dental Care said that this technology is not only beautiful and practical, but also can effectively repair problems such as missing, cracked or large gaps in teeth.

Social media drives the trend of “Hollywood smile”

Dentist Adhwa Anis Zulkarnain pointed out that in recent years, more and more people are pursuing the “Hollywood smile” – a white, symmetrical and flawless dental aesthetic style, influenced by social media influencers and movie stars.

She said that this trend has prompted people to seek faster and more significant ways to improve their smiles, and veneers have become an ideal choice.

“Dental veneers can transform a person’s smile in just two visits, making them a quick and effective solution.”

She added that veneers not only provide long-term whitening effects, but also improve the symmetry and alignment of teeth, thus avoiding the long-term discomfort of wearing traditional braces.

Currently, there are two main types of veneer materials: composite resin veneers and porcelain veneers. The former are less expensive and can often be completed in a single visit, while the latter require custom processing and are more expensive but the effect is more natural and closer to real teeth.

Dr Zulkarnain pointed out that porcelain veneers are more popular with patients due to their durability and aesthetics. They can cost up to RM3,000 per tooth, while composite veneers usually do not exceed RM500.

Not suitable for everyone, careful assessment is required before treatment

Despite the growing popularity of veneer treatments, Dr Zulkarnain also stressed that not everyone is suitable for such treatments.

She explained that patients must have a healthy oral condition and follow good oral hygiene habits before receiving veneers.

“We do a thorough check of gum health and tooth structure. If there are severe cavities, weak roots, bleeding or swollen gums, veneer treatment may be risky and must be addressed first.”

She also pointed out that for individuals with excessively uneven, crowded or spaced teeth, braces or other orthodontic methods are a more appropriate first choice.

“Veneers are more suitable for mild cosmetic correction and cannot replace orthodontic treatment.” She said, “Experienced dentists will make a clear assessment before treatment to ensure that the effect is ideal and there are no side effects.”

Beware of the “fake veneer” trap and avoid adverse consequences

As the demand for veneers increases, a large number of unlicensed “fake veneer” services have also appeared on the market, which are performed by non-professionals and bring great risks.

Dr. Zulkarnain pointed out that this type of veneer only covers the surface of the teeth, lacks professional procedures and clinical supervision, and is very likely to cause damage to the tooth structure.

“False veneers are usually not thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, which can easily lead to plaque accumulation, oral infection, and even bad breath.”

She said that formal veneer treatment includes X-rays, dental impressions, and customized production to ensure that every step meets medical standards.

The key to regaining confidence: a healthy and bright smile

Finally, Dr. Zulkarnain emphasized that dental veneers can not only improve appearance, but also help improve a person’s social confidence and self-image.

“Having neat and white teeth often gives people a good impression and is regarded as a symbol of health and beauty.” She added, “Whether it is workplace performance or daily communication, a bright smile may become the first impression left in others’ minds.”

In short, dental veneers, as a quick and effective means of dental beautification, have gradually become an important way to improve personal image and self-confidence in modern society.

But while pursuing beauty, it is necessary to make reasonable assessments and choices under the guidance of professional dentists to ensure safety and smile confidently.
