Woman’s Breast Augmentation Surgery Leads to Devastating Health Issues and Paralysis

A woman from Miami, Florida, has shared her harrowing experience following a breast augmentation procedure in 2016 that led to years of intense pain, health complications, and eventual paralysis.

Carol Paredes, now 52, initially decided to undergo surgery after her boyfriend’s comments about her body, including remarks about her figure, left her feeling self-conscious. She chose a “highly recommended” surgeon in Miami and opted for C-cup implants.

However, after waking up from the surgery, Carol immediately noticed something was wrong: the implants felt misaligned, and the surgeon had used a larger size than she had requested, opting for D-cups instead.

Despite the initial discomfort, it wasn’t until five years later, in 2021, that Carol began experiencing severe pain in her groin. She described the pain as “extremely sharp, like a knife was being stuck in and twisted.”

Doctors dismissed the pain as stress or psychosomatic, and even X-rays showed no abnormalities. As the pain persisted, Carol’s health began to deteriorate, leaving her unable to walk, stand, or sleep. She went from being an active fitness coach to needing a wheelchair.

By 2023, Carol had developed arthritis, and her condition worsened to the point of paralysis. Desperate for answers, she explored various alternative treatments, including extreme diets and even drinking her own urine, but nothing helped.

Eventually, Carol consulted a chiropractor, who confirmed that her health problems stemmed from the breast implants. An MRI revealed that one of the implants had ruptured, causing silicone to leak into her body. The situation became an emergency, and she demanded that the implants be removed.

Following the removal, Carol’s health challenges continued. In 2023, she underwent two hip replacements and suffered from an infection during the implant removal surgery. In March 2024, she had to undergo open-heart surgery due to an aneurysm caused by the complications.

The financial strain of her medical bills, which reached £11,000, forced Carol to sell her belongings and even her parents’ apartment to cover costs. She launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her recovery.

Now, Carol is speaking out to raise awareness about the risks of breast augmentation, particularly the dangers of implants. She hopes her story will encourage others to carefully consider the long-term consequences of cosmetic surgery.

“I lost five years of my life,” Carol said. “Don’t risk your life trying to be perfect—there’s no such thing.”
