Jordan Burt Shapes the Team Behind CU Dental Mission

Jordan Burt’s passion for people drives her work as the Human Resources talent acquisition specialist at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (CU SDM). She plays a key role in recruiting faculty and staff and guiding candidates through the hiring process. Her efforts help build a team that supports the school’s focus on education, patient care, and community service.

Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Burt earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Creighton University. She specialized in marketing and human resource management. Early in her career, she worked in various HR roles, ranging from intern to recruitment business partner. Her path to higher education was not direct.

“I worked in child welfare case management and later in onboarding and recruiting at Children’s Hospital in Omaha,” Burt said. “I also hired dentists and dental assistants there, which gave me valuable experience for my current role.”

In 2023, Burt moved to Colorado with her fiancé and soon joined the CU Dental team. She now leads recruitment for all school positions, including student employees, clinical faculty, administrative staff, and research professionals. She attends career fairs, promotes job openings through the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and ensures qualified candidates find their way to the Anschutz Medical Campus.

“I enjoy connecting with people,” she said. “Being part of someone’s career journey, especially at a place like CU Dental where the work truly matters, is rewarding.”

Burt highlights the school’s mission-driven culture as a strong reason to apply. “Clinical roles work closely with students and faculty, and everyone here is focused on helping people,” she said. “Plus, the Anschutz Medical Campus offers a great environment with fun events, staff activities, and excellent benefits.”

Recruiting today presents challenges. Budget limits and a competitive job market require Burt to be creative in attracting top talent. Despite these hurdles, she believes the right candidates will find their way to CU Dental.

Her advice to applicants: “Do your homework. Learn about the school, the campus, and the role. Come prepared with questions—not just to impress the interviewer but to ensure the job is a good fit for you both now and in the future.”

Outside work, Burt embraces Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle. “I love snowboarding, hiking, paddleboarding, camping—basically anything outside,” she said. She also values her large family in Omaha, which includes five sisters, two brothers, and 14 nieces and nephews. This summer, she and her fiancé plan to have a wedding in Colorado.

Burt credits her success to a simple philosophy: “It’s okay to make mistakes. What matters is how you respond—take ownership, fix the problem, and learn from it.”

With this mindset, Burt continues to grow as a recruiter, team member, and an essential part of the CU School of Dental Medicine.
