‘Removing Barriers’: Damien Center Launches Dental Clinic on Near East Side

INDIANAPOLIS (MIRROR INDY) — The Damien Center opened a new dental clinic on July 28 at its Mosaic Building, 1420 E. Washington St., on the near east side.

The clinic offers routine cleanings, fillings, extractions, X-rays, and other dental services to all Marion County residents. People without insurance may qualify for financial assistance, with fees determined on a sliding scale based on income and household size.

Founded as Indiana’s oldest HIV service organization, the Damien Center said the clinic responds to a 2022 county survey showing that 38% of adults had not visited a dentist in the past year. The number rose to 65% for households earning under $25,000.

“Too often, people delay or avoid dental treatment because of cost, fear, or negative past experiences,” said Alan Witchey, president and CEO of the Damien Center. “We’re removing those barriers.”

The clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Appointments can be scheduled online.

Patients should bring a photo ID and insurance card. Financial counselors are available to assist with Medicaid or Marketplace plan applications.
