NANAIMO — For many, dental visits provoke anxiety, from the whir of drills to the sting of needles. Now, patients at Seven Sails Dental Centre have a gentler option, thanks to Dr. Michel Séguin, who has introduced an advanced laser technology he describes as a “game-changer.”
A family dentist who once feared dental appointments himself, Dr. Séguin has long sought ways to make treatments more comfortable. After years of research, his clinic became the first in Nanaimo to implement this innovative laser system.
Unlike traditional drills, the laser uses focused light to vaporize tissue at a microscopic level. The process produces no heat, often eliminates the need for anesthesia, and is typically pain-free.
This technology allows a range of procedures—from routine cavity fillings to complex root canals and soft-tissue surgeries such as tongue-tie corrections—to be completed more efficiently.
Patients report overwhelmingly positive experiences. Many are surprised by the minimal discomfort and quicker recovery. “They’re in and out faster and recover more quickly,” Dr. Séguin said.
The dentist hopes this technology will change how people view dental care in Nanaimo, offering a safer and more comfortable alternative. “I want people to know this effective option is available to them,” he added.
