Dr Frank Tolsdorf, commercial director of the University Dental Clinic Witten/Herdecke, says the clinic has been using straight and contra-angle handpieces from W&H for more than a decade. “Our dental clinic employs 35 practitioners and currently has around 350 Synea Fusion handpieces and contra-angle handpieces in use. We also use surgical products from the Austrian manufacturer. Before working with W&H, we conducted a tender process in 2014 or 2015, during which straight and contra-angle handpieces from several manufacturers were requested and tested in practice. Their performance was evaluated under different parameters, and W&H achieved the most favourable results among the products tested.”
Long service life supports cost efficiency
“Some of the handpieces and contra-angle handpieces from the initial order remain in use today, meaning they are more than 10 years old,” said Dr Tolsdorf. “When issues arise, we work with a service partner who assesses whether a repair is appropriate or if replacement is necessary. Given the large number of instruments in use, durability and service life are important considerations, particularly from a cost-management perspective.”
Long-standing partnership
Tolsdorf noted that the clinic has worked with W&H for an extended period compared with other equipment categories.
“In other areas, such as treatment units or X-ray equipment, it is sometimes necessary to change manufacturers over time. However, this has not been the case with our straight and contra-angle handpieces, where the collaboration has remained consistent.”
