The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) has revealed its 2026 “10 Dentists to Watch,” an annual honor celebrating rising leaders whose work is shaping the future of general dentistry. This recognition highlights dentists who demonstrate clinical excellence, innovative approaches to patient care, and a strong commitment to advancing the profession.
This year’s honorees represent a diverse group of clinicians making meaningful impacts across the country. Their achievements span public health, community service, academic leadership, and technological innovation, reflecting a shared dedication to improving oral health outcomes and mentoring the next generation of dentists.
Among the honorees, Dr. Soham Apte of Beloit, Wisconsin, provides comprehensive care at a federally qualified health center while mentoring students at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. Dr. Akanksha Baheti of Chicago brings international expertise in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, earning recognition for both technical innovation and community-focused oral health education. In San Antonio, Dr. Maritza Flores combines clinical practice with public health initiatives and extensive volunteer work, expanding access to care in underserved communities.
Other notable honorees include Dr. Yelisey Gurzhuy of Oregon, president-elect of Oregon AGD, who promotes lifelong learning for young dentists, and Dr. Sarah Hardin of Arkansas, founding chair of clinical sciences at the state’s first dental school, developing curricula that bridge academic training with real-world patient needs. Dr. Anthony L. Jaramillo of Texas is celebrated for his clinical skill, compassionate patient care, and leadership within the local dental community.
Military dentists are also well represented. Maj. Jae Lim of Maryland, Maj. Jake Schisler of Michigan, and Maj. Austin Stubbs of Texas blend clinical expertise with leadership roles in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, overseeing dental readiness for hundreds of soldiers while mentoring future military dentists. Additionally, Dr. Hieu Pham of New York co-founded ORAL Dental Studio, integrating advanced digital technology with inclusive patient care and a commitment to equity.
