CLEVELAND — A free, two-day dentist clinic and medical clinic will open Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Huntington Convention Center, organizers said.
The event is run by the nonprofit MedWish Medworks and requires no insurance. Last year, more than 1,000 patients received an average of $1,400 in free care, the group said.
More than 500 medical professionals and community volunteers are expected to provide services, including dental screenings, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions and temporary dentures. Children’s sealants and screenings also will be available.
Additional services include vision screenings, and hearing screenings and ear exams (available Saturday only). Attendees can also get podiatry and primary care exams, women’s health services including mammograms, HIV and glucose testing, and flu shots.
“This year’s need may be even greater than in the past. With insurance prices skyrocketing for some families and dental care remaining one of Ohio’s most unmet health needs, organizers anticipate more than 1,000 people showing up to seek care,” organizers wrote in an email to FOX 8.
Doors open at 7 a.m. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and organizers say they expect people to begin lining up early.
