Henry Schein One Brings Generative AI to Dental Center Operations

Henry Schein One is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to integrate generative AI into dental practices worldwide. The collaboration will embed AWS artificial intelligence tools into Henry Schein One’s software, including Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, and Dentally.

The partnership marks a major step toward an AI-first model of patient care. Henry Schein One aims to become the first company to offer a fully AI-augmented practice management system, incorporating AI into all aspects of dental operations—from documentation and scheduling to patient communication and clinical workflows.

“This collaboration represents a pivotal moment for dentistry,” said Ryan Hungate, chief clinical and strategy officer at Henry Schein One. “Cutting-edge AI is finally meeting clinical expertise.

We’re reimagining how dental care is delivered, documented, and optimized globally. Our vision is an AI-first ecosystem supporting every aspect of care—from diagnostics to documentation, claims, and patient engagement.”

The initiative will leverage AWS technologies such as Amazon Bedrock and Transcribe Medical to create and deploy generative AI models. Key features include a real-time AI documentation assistant that summarizes patient interactions and voice-activated periodontal charting for hands-free data entry.

Beyond clinical improvements, Henry Schein One plans to use AI for predictive business insights, automated claims validation, and dynamic pricing optimization. These tools aim to streamline operations, improve cash flow, and personalize patient engagement through data-driven scheduling and communication.

Dan Sheeran, vice president and general manager of healthcare and life sciences at AWS, said the partnership highlights AI’s potential to transform healthcare operations.

“By combining AWS’s AI services with Henry Schein One’s dental expertise, we are building solutions that improve patient outcomes while reducing administrative burdens,” he said.

Henry Schein One will roll out the AI capabilities across the U.S., U.K., and European Union, using AWS’s global infrastructure to ensure scalability, interoperability, and compliance with privacy standards.

The company believes the integration of cloud computing and generative AI will make dental care more efficient and “profoundly human,” allowing dentists to focus more on patient outcomes than administrative tasks.
