LECOM Student-Run Dental Clinic Offers Free Care to Children at “Super Smile Saturday”

LECOM School of Dental Medicine – Student volunteers treated children at a free community event on Saturday afternoon, leaving them with bright smiles.

The school invited children ages 2 to 17 to enjoy free dental care at “Super Smile Saturday.” The clinic, staffed entirely by LECOM students, provided dental exams, fluoride treatments, and fissure sealants.

“Cavities are the number one chronic disease affecting both children and adults,” said LECOM dental student Connor Boyinski. “This event is focused on children, so we reached out to communities that could bring their children for treatment.”

Organizers said the student-run clinic not only provides students with hands-on experience but also removes barriers to providing care for their families. Appointments and services are free, and volunteers handle clinical and administrative work.

LECOM officials stated that community engagement is core to the school’s mission and pointed to events like “Super Smile Saturday” as examples of this commitment.

Parents and guardians praised the convenience of the event and the professionalism of the students, noting that early preventative care can reduce long-term dental problems.

For many attendees, the event provided not only immediate treatment but also oral hygiene education and follow-up treatment options within the community.
