The Faculty of Health at Qatar University (QU) is proud to present the inspiring journey of Deema Jamal Al Saleh, a passionate Qatari dental student whose story embodies a fusion of creativity, compassion, and academic excellence.
Her life journey embodies a new generation of healthcare professionals committed not only to furthering their professional skills but also to creating meaningful social impact.
From a young age, Deema’s curiosity wasn’t sparked by toys or childhood hobbies, but by the precision and variety of tools she observed in the dental clinic.
“Walking into the dentist’s office was like walking into an art studio,” she recalls. “I saw more than just a medical procedure; it was a creative process. Watching a broken tooth being meticulously restored, I was instantly inspired.”
Deema is currently a student at the QU College of Dentistry, a rigorous and forward-thinking program that emphasizes clinical practice and patient interaction from the outset.
Designed to meet Qatar’s growing demand for highly skilled medical professionals, the college combines scientific rigor with patient-centered training—an approach that perfectly aligns with Deema’s vision.
“The learning environment here is immersive,” Deema shares. “We don’t just observe—we’re directly involved in patient care.
More importantly, we’re building relationships. This isn’t just about treating teeth; it’s about building trust, alleviating fears, and often making people feel good.”
She attributes this philosophy to the strong culture of support and collaboration among faculty and students.
Deema describes the academy as a close-knit community where teamwork, mentorship, and encouragement are part of her daily experience. She says the dedication of her faculty was crucial in shaping her career path.
What began as a personal dream has now become a family mission. Deema is the first in her family to pursue a career in dentistry, a choice that initially surprised her relatives.
However, over time, her siblings followed in her footsteps, hoping to one day run a family dental practice to serve the community.
“Now, it’s a shared dream,” she says. “We imagine working side by side, providing care with empathy and a sense of purpose.”
Deema’s sights extend beyond Qatar; she aspires to participate in global outreach efforts, bringing treatment and oral health education to underserved communities around the world.
“Healthcare shouldn’t be a privilege,” she emphasizes. “The opportunity to smile with confidence should be shared by everyone.”
Her academic journey also exposed her to the interdisciplinary applications of dentistry, such as the use of endodontics in forensic medicine—a field that fascinates her.
“It’s amazing to see how dentistry connects with so many other disciplines,” she explains.
