Maintaining good oral health isn’t just about teeth and gums; it’s closely linked to overall health. In a recent exclusive interview with APP, dental hygienist Mohammed Assad reminded the public to see a dentist or registered dental hygienist for a checkup at least every six months to prevent and address potential dental problems.
Assad emphasized that daily oral care is equally important. He recommends brushing twice a day to maintain healthy gums and teeth.
While a toothbrush mechanically removes plaque, the active ingredients in toothpaste further prevent cavities and gum disease.
Currently, there are a wide variety of toothpastes available, primarily categorized into four main categories: anti-cavity, whitening, anti-sensitivity, and tartar control.
Assad emphasized that oral conditions vary from person to person, and only a dentist or qualified dental hygienist can accurately recommend the most suitable toothpaste. He stated, “Choosing the right toothpaste is crucial for maintaining dental health.”
He reiterated the importance of regular checkups: “Six-month checkups not only allow for early detection and treatment of oral diseases, but also prevent them from worsening.
Using a toothpaste recommended by a dental professional will yield better results for treating tooth sensitivity, controlling plaque, and preventing cavities.”
