Sage Dental Hygiene Brings Dental Care to Okanagan Residents with Disabilities

If you or a loved one lives in the Okanagan, Shuswap, or Kamloops areas and mobility, cognitive impairment, or other limitations prevent you from visiting a traditional dental office, there’s a convenient and thoughtful new option.

Sage Dental Hygiene is a mobile dental hygiene service designed to serve those most in need in the Okanagan Valley, Shuswap, and Kamloops communities, with a particular focus on seniors and residents of long-term care facilities.

The service was founded by experienced dental hygienist Jenna Smith, a native of Vernonite and a passionate community service provider.

“Many people with disabilities or long-term care residents struggle to access regular dental care,” Smith says. “Especially for those with dementia, receiving care in a familiar, comfortable environment can help alleviate anxiety and confusion.”

A graduate of the University of British Columbia and Camosun College, Smith has over 18 years of dental experience since returning to her hometown in 2010.

In 2021, inspired by a client’s question about mobile dental services and recognizing the significant gap between local supply and demand, she founded Sage Dental Hygiene.

“Sage Dental Hygiene aims to provide professional and compassionate care to those who lack access to dental clinics, especially seniors,” she said.

The clinic offers comprehensive services, including oral exams, cleanings, scaling, root planing, polishing, temporary fillings, caries prevention, and personalized oral health education.

By providing in-home services, Sage not only alleviates travel challenges but also enhances the quality of life and dignity of its clients.

Notably, Sage Dental Hygiene is currently the only mobile dental hygiene provider in the Okanagan region to accept the Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP), helping more people overcome financial barriers and access the oral care they deserve.

“We prioritize personalized care,” Smith added. “By building trusted relationships with our clients and their families, we can better address their unique needs and create a warm, reliable care experience.”

Currently, new clients who discover this article on Castanet can take advantage of a limited-time offer until August 31st.
