Welcoming Dr Felicia Valianatos as Chair of the ADC Board and Thanking Dr Chris Bourke

The Australian Dental Council (ADC) is delighted to announce Dr Felicia Valianatos as the new Chair of the ADC Board.
Dr Valianatos brings a wealth of experience as a general dentist, senior healthcare leader and passionate advocate for professional excellence.

Dr Valianatos has been deeply connected to the ADC for over two decades. Her journey began as an overseas-trained dentist navigating
the ADC’s assessment process in the late 1990s. Since then, she has served as an examiner, exam convenor member of the Assessment
Committee and Board Director. Her leadership has been instrumental in refining standards, enhancing public safety and shaping the
competencies for newly qualified dental practitioners.

Reflecting on her appointment, Dr Valianatos shared:

“The ADC has a deep meaning to me as the gateway into dentistry, one of the most trusted professions in Australia. Being elected
as Board Chair is a profound responsibility and an opportunity to guide the ADC towards a sustainable, impactful future for
healthcare professionals and the communities we serve.”

The ADC also takes this opportunity to extend its heartfelt thanks to Dr Chris Bourke as he concludes his tenure as Chair of the Board.
Under Dr Bourke’s leadership, the ADC has achieved significant milestones:

  • Conducting a record number of practical examinations, providing more opportunities for internationally qualified dental practitioners.
  • Launching international accreditation initiatives, including landmark projects in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Strengthening the ADC’s commitment to reconciliation with the successful implementation and completion of
the Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan and increasing Indigenous representation on the Board and Committees.

  • Introducing updated professional competencies that prioritise oral health equity and inclusivity.

Dr Bourke’s tenure has left a lasting legacy, setting the ADC on a path of growth, innovation and inclusivity.

As we welcome Dr Valianatos to her new role, we also celebrate Dr Bourke’s achievements and thank him for his dedication to the ADC’s purpose.

Stay connected as we continue our journey of excellence in dental education, accreditation and assessment.
