AAP survey: Patients lie about flossing frequency

More than a quarter of patients lie about how often they floss, according to a new survey released June 23 by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). The Maryland Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped (MFDH) has received $35,000 to support its Donated Dental Services Program. The program improves access to dental care by providing free dental services to low-income adults who are disabled by illness or injury. The foundation recruits dentists and dental laboratories and provides case management for the patients. More than 400 eligible patients will receive more than $1 million in donated dental services.

AAPD foundation accepts grant applications

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s Pipeline to Proposal program has given a clinical research award to an otolaryngologist with Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit to study treatment options and post-treatment rehabilitation for oropharyngeal cancer patients. Steven Chang, MD, a surgeon in the department of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at the hospital, will focus on improving quality-of-life issues for long-term survivors of oropharyngeal cancer, according to a press release.
