Children Receive Free Dental Exams and Preventive Care at Clinics in Florida and Indiana

Dental clinics in different parts of the United States are launching special events to provide free dental care for children, highlighting the importance of oral health and preventive treatment. During National Children’s Dental Health Month, these initiatives aim to reach families who may not otherwise have access to essential dental services.

In Miramar, Florida, Concorde Career Institute partnered with Aspen Dental to offer a one-day event called “Making Miramar Smile.” The program is targeted at children aged 4 to 17 and is designed to raise awareness about early dental care while delivering free services like X-rays, cleanings, and preventive treatments. Dental hygiene students, supervised by licensed professionals, performed these services, allowing them to gain hands-on experience and support the community at the same time. The event organizers encouraged families to schedule appointments ahead of time due to limited spots, but some same-day appointments were available. The activities were held at the Concorde Career Institute’s Miramar location.

Meanwhile, in Indiana, Meridian Health Services conducted “Give Kids a Smile,” another one-day initiative offering free dental exams for children up to 18 years old. This event, supported by the American Dental Association, included polishing, cleaning, and fluoride applications. Children could attend at several Meridian Dental locations throughout cities such as Anderson, Elwood, Marion, Muncie, Portland, and Richmond. Organizers encouraged parents to book appointments in advance, although walk-ins were accepted if space allowed. Meridian Health Services, a not-for-profit health system, integrates dental care into its broader health programs, recognizing the connection between oral health and overall well-being.

Medical experts emphasize that tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease but can be prevented with regular dental visits, brushing, flossing, and timely interventions. Untreated dental issues may also contribute to other serious health conditions, including heart disease and diabetes, making these preventive efforts especially important.

Support for these events came from numerous community organizations, health partners, and sponsors, furthering the impact and reach of free dental services. Families were urged to take advantage of these opportunities to help their children maintain healthy teeth and avoid future dental problems. Organizers stress that educational outreach and accessible care can make a lasting difference in children’s overall health.
