Colgate has announced a strategic collaboration with the Hong Kong Dental Association and Mannings to launch Hong Kong’s first TOTAL Periodontal Health Lab at Olympian City 2. Taking place from 12 to 18 Mar at the mall’s atrium, the initiative is introduced ahead of World Oral Health Day on 20 Mar and aims to promote a stronger public focus on preventive oral healthcare.
Recognising that gum health forms the foundation of overall wellbeing, the initiative encourages the public to adopt a “prevention over cure” approach to periodontal care. Through professional education and interactive experiences, Colgate aims to raise awareness of gum disease and highlight the importance of proactive oral hygiene in supporting the broader health of Hong Kong’s community.
The campaign responds to a persistent lack of public awareness regarding early warning signs of periodontal disease, including gingival bleeding and swelling. Medical studies have shown that bacteria from inflamed gums may enter the bloodstream, potentially linking periodontal disease to systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. By highlighting these often overlooked symptoms, the initiative aims to reinforce the connection between oral health and overall physical wellbeing.
Interactive education to support preventive care
To encourage public engagement, the TOTAL Periodontal Health Lab introduces the concept “Healthy bodies start with healthy gums” through an immersive play-and-learn experience. Visitors can participate in real-time periodontal screenings, receive complimentary dental consultations and attend expert-led seminars. In addition, three interactive challenges are designed to help participants identify potential oral health risks through a multi-sensory learning approach.
Through these activities, Colgate hopes to help members of the public develop stronger oral hygiene habits and establish long-term protection for gum health.
From self-assessment to professional consultation
The lab features two main evaluation components: real-time periodontal screenings and complimentary professional dental consultations. By combining clinical tools with interactive technology, the initiative allows participants to gain deeper insights into their individual gum health.
Real-time periodontal screening
Dental plaque, the primary cause of periodontal disease, is often invisible to the naked eye. At the event, a clinical-grade plaque detector using optical imaging technology allows participants to visualise bacterial build-up between teeth and along the gum line. This enables visitors to identify areas they may be missing during daily oral care and better understand their current periodontal condition.
AI-powered oral health assessment
On 14 and 15 Mar, the lab will also feature the Gum AI Oral Health Assessment System, a technology developed by a university dental research team. Participants can use a smartphone or tablet to capture images of their oral cavity, which the AI system analyses using large-scale data analytics.
The system evaluates gum health and converts clinical indicators into easy-to-understand reports, offering participants a convenient and accessible introduction to digital oral healthcare solutions.
Professional dental consultations
To complement these digital screenings, visitors will also have the opportunity to receive complimentary professional consultations from dental professionals. The initiative reflects the high standards of dental education and clinical expertise associated with the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, which is recognised globally for its academic excellence.
Following a consultation, participants will receive a tube of Colgate Total Plaque Intense & Gum Repair toothpaste (95g) and exclusive brand vouchers. Through direct engagement between dental professionals and the community, the programme aims to equip individuals with practical strategies to prevent periodontal disease.
Educational challenges and rewards
Beyond clinical assessments, the TOTAL Periodontal Health Lab includes three interactive “Healthy Teeth” challenges designed to reinforce oral hygiene knowledge through engaging activities. Participants who complete the challenges can collect stamps and redeem rewards, including Colgate Total Plaque Intense & Gum Repair (18g) and promotional vouchers.
To further encourage participation, a range of limited-time rewards will also be available in partnership with Mannings. Visitors who complete selected activities, attend seminars or participate in consultations may redeem gifts such as Colgate TOTAL series products, shopping vouchers and limited-edition collaboration merchandise.
In addition, exclusive promotional offers will be available through Mannings stores and online platforms during the event period, allowing customers who purchase selected products to receive additional premium gifts. The collaboration aims to support both oral health awareness and everyday wellness among the public.
