Community Event Boosts Awareness of Early Oral Health Among Children in Qatar

Doha, Qatar – A growing emphasis on early oral health screening in Qatar was highlighted at the recent Kids Healthy Village event, where nearly 600 children benefited over four days, according to Dr. Najat Al-Yafei, Manager of the Oral Health Promotion and Prevention Department.

The event, organised by the Corporate Communications Directorate of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), took place at Lusail Marina from December 24 to 27, 2025. This marked the department’s second consecutive participation in the community-based initiative, which featured a wide range of health activities delivered by multiple PHCC departments, including the Oral Health Department.

Dr. Al-Yafei said the participation showcased the integration of preventive care and health promotion in a community setting, emphasizing the department’s role in early prevention and oral health education.

“The strong turnout, particularly in the final days, reflects families’ growing awareness of the importance of early oral health screening and the success of reaching new segments of the community,” she noted.

The event utilised mobile dental units and intraoral cameras, allowing parents to see their children’s oral health status firsthand. This approach turned screenings into an educational experience, enhancing understanding and confidence in the advice provided.

Children were engaged through simplified educational activities, interactive games, and supportive giveaways, ensuring comfort and encouraging acceptance of preventive procedures. Staff professionalism and effective organisation were key contributors to the event’s success.

Parent surveys indicated a very high level of satisfaction, with many expressing increased motivation to maintain their children’s oral health. Quick dental screenings were cited as the most valuable component of the event.

Dr. Al-Yafei concluded that the Kids Healthy Village event serves as a successful model of community-based preventive care, combining direct outreach with integrated health services, and promoting greater attention to oral health among families in Qatar.
