Over 400 members covered by Marquette University’s dental insurance plan have not visited a dentist in the past two years, prompting a renewed call for preventive care — especially during the candy-filled Halloween season.
Marquette’s dental plan, provided through Delta Dental of Wisconsin, offers 100% coverage for diagnostic and preventive services at all in-network providers.
Members who choose the university’s School of Dentistry Faculty Practice receive the highest level of coverage with no deductibles.
Halloween often leads to higher candy consumption, which can increase the risk of cavities, tooth decay, and other dental problems.
Experts note that certain sweets — including hard, sour, gummy candies, and caramels — are particularly damaging because they stick to teeth. In contrast, chocolate, especially dark varieties, tends to be less harmful.
To protect dental health, experts recommend eating candy after meals, avoiding continuous snacking, donating excess candy, and brushing teeth promptly after eating sweets.
Regular preventive visits help detect and address dental issues early, saving both teeth and money over time while supporting overall health.
