A dental practice in Hitchin has been granted approval to significantly expand its operation following a decision by North Herts Council. Hitchin Dental Practice on Highbury Road will now be able to convert the upper floors of its building, currently used for residential purposes, into commercial space for the practice.
With this change, the dental clinic is set to enlarge its facilities, adding a new reception and waiting area, three additional consultation rooms, and improved staff amenities. Once completed, the expansion is expected to increase the number of appointments available by half. This will also allow the workforce to double, with six dentists, six nurses, and two receptionists planned.
Currently, the practice operates during weekdays, but there are intentions to introduce Saturday openings. This move aims to better meet the increasing demand for local dental care. The expansion also supports improvements in the range of dental services offered to patients.
The upgraded premises will offer cycle parking to both staff and patients, promoting sustainable travel options. The three existing parking spaces at the site will remain available for use by visitors to the practice.
Supporters of the project point to the benefits for the community, including an expected rise in NHS dental services, additional job opportunities, and further growth of local healthcare services. The expansion highlights ongoing efforts to meet the needs of Hitchin’s growing population and to enhance the availability of dental care in the area.
