Ho Chi Minh City Dental Clinics Expand Services with New Techniques, Ensuring Safety

Ho Chi Minh City – The city’s dental services have seen significant expansion in recent years, with thousands of clinics now offering advanced treatments. These include dental implants, bone grafting, sinus lift procedures, and modern restorations, benefiting local residents with access to cutting-edge care.

However, as the number of dental procedures increases, so do the potential risks associated with invasive treatments. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has raised concerns about the lack of qualified staff, insufficient equipment, and inconsistent clinical procedures at some dental facilities.

Under the previous regulations, surgical techniques classified as Category I or special-category procedures had to undergo a pilot phase before being officially introduced in medical facilities. This mechanism was also applied to specialized dental procedures.

With the implementation of the 2023 Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, the requirement for pilot programs for “new techniques”—defined as procedures introduced for the first time in Vietnam—has been lifted. Facilities that began pilot programs under the old system will continue until reaching the required case numbers and must submit reports for evaluation before receiving official approval.

To ensure compliance and patient safety, the Department of Health has issued guidelines and organized training for dental and maxillofacial clinics. Health sector leaders emphasized that these measures are not meant to hinder medical facilities, but rather to uphold professional standards, ensure transparency, and guarantee safe practices.

The Department encourages healthcare providers to actively improve their capabilities, adopt new techniques, and fully comply with the latest legal regulations.
