According to the clinic, the newly implemented model aims to simplify the treatment journey for international patients while reducing uncertainty before and during travel. The process begins with a remote consultation, allowing patients to securely upload dental X-rays and images online. Based on this preliminary assessment, clinicians develop a detailed treatment plan that includes a comprehensive cost estimate prior to any travel commitments.

Following patient approval, the process advances to scheduling, where travel dates are confirmed and personalized arrangements for the Istanbul visit are organized.

Upon arrival, patients receive coordinated logistical support, including airport transfers provided by TÜRSAB-certified operators and hotel accommodations arranged by multilingual staff. An in-person clinical evaluation and consent process is then conducted before treatment begins. The clinic also utilizes an in-house dental laboratory, enabling real-time adjustments and, when necessary, same-day modifications to restorations.
Industry data underscores the importance of such structured systems. Research from the Medical Tourism Association indicates that 97.2% of medical tourists consider trust the most critical factor in their decision-making process. At the same time, 57.7% report concerns related to cost transparency and international payment procedures, while nearly 29% of dental professionals cite language barriers as a potential obstacle to obtaining informed consent. Despite cost savings that can range from 50% to 70% compared with treatments in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, these concerns continue to limit broader participation in dental tourism.
The clinic recently illustrated its approach through the treatment of a patient from Florida, who underwent restorative dental care in Istanbul following a remote consultation. During the procedure, initial fittings were adjusted based on patient feedback, with final refinements completed through the clinic’s in-house laboratory to meet clinical standards.
Co-founder Dr. Alper Gurhan said the model addresses a widespread misconception about patient decision-making in dental tourism.
“The biggest misconception in dental tourism is that patients choose based solely on price,” he said. “After serving patients from 85 countries over 22 years, we have found that trust is the decisive factor. Our process is designed to address communication, cost clarity, and treatment flexibility before the patient even travels.”
To further support continuity of care, Maltepe Dental Clinic has partnered with a facility in London, offering pre-treatment consultations for patients in the UK and Europe, as well as post-treatment follow-up services after they return home. The clinic said this integrated approach is intended to improve coordination and address one of the key challenges associated with cross-border dental care.
