Awantipora, Oct 10: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), through its Centre for Vocational Studies and in collaboration with Government Dental College (GDC), Srinagar, organized a free dental checkup camp at the university campus. The initiative carried the theme, “Oral Health – The Gateway to Overall Healthcare.”
The camp highlighted the critical connection between oral hygiene and general health. A team of 20 dental professionals offered consultations, on-site tooth fillings, scaling, and distributed free medicines. Over 200 students, faculty members, and staff participated in the program and received dental care services.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. A.H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs at IUST. Coordination was managed by Dr. Shahid Mudasir Baba, Coordinator of the Centre for Vocational Studies, alongside Dr. Aasim Farooq Shah, Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry at GDC Srinagar.
During the event, Prof. Moon expressed appreciation for the dental team and discussed opportunities for future academic collaboration and community health initiatives between IUST and GDC Srinagar.
The camp reflects IUST’s ongoing commitment to student and staff welfare while promoting awareness about the role of oral health in preventing systemic illnesses. The organizers emphasized that early detection and routine dental care are essential in reducing risks associated with conditions such as gum disease, tooth decay, and other oral infections that can affect overall well-being.
By combining professional dental services with educational outreach, the camp aimed to foster preventive healthcare habits among the university community. Participants received guidance on maintaining proper oral hygiene, managing sensitive teeth, and recognizing early warning signs of dental issues.
This initiative marks a step toward strengthening partnerships between academic institutions and healthcare providers, underscoring the importance of integrating oral health into broader public health strategies.
