KARACHI — The community dentistry department of Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC) delivered an oral health awareness session at The City School, Bait-ul-Mukarram campus, offering preventive dental education to nearly 180 children.
Led by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Haider, assistant professor and head of department, the JMDC team included lecturers Dr. Arish Sohail and Dr. Usman Bukhari, alongside house officers and support staff. They carried out dental screenings for students in the pre-primary and primary sections, aged 5 to 12.
House officers performed oral examinations inside each classroom, in the presence of class teachers. Conducting checks in familiar surroundings helped reduce children’s anxiety and encouraged open discussion about oral hygiene.
The session featured hands-on demonstrations of proper tooth-brushing techniques using dental models. These interactive exercises taught students correct brushing angles, motions and recommended duration in an age-appropriate manner.
The City School’s principal praised the initiative, noting that early oral health education plays a key role in forming lifelong dental habits. School leadership described the visit as a valuable step toward promoting preventive care among pupils.
JMDC’s community dentistry department said it will continue similar evidence-based outreach programs to raise oral health literacy among children and families across Karachi.
