New Grant to Improve Dental Care for Children in Central and Western North Dakota

Bismarck State College (BSC) has received a significant $75,000 grant to improve dental care for underserved youth in the area.

The grant, generously donated by the Otto Bremer Trust and administered by the North Dakota Community Foundation, will equip BSC’s new dental clinic with state-of-the-art 3D imaging technology and advanced sterilization equipment.

This initiative addresses the critical need for affordable and accessible dental care for children, particularly those from low-income families.

At the heart of this initiative, BSC’s Mystical Smile Clinic is dedicated to providing high-quality dental services to children who otherwise struggle to afford necessary care.

Dr. Tagin Brickhouse, the pediatric dentist for the program, emphasized that the clinic’s mission is not just to provide dental services but to make dental care accessible and accessible to all families in the community.

“Many families face significant barriers to obtaining dental care for their children,” said Dr. Brickhouse. “With this grant, we are able to provide a cost-effective solution while training the next generation of dental professionals.”

The new clinic will not only serve the local community but also provide valuable hands-on experience for dental hygiene students. Over 100 individuals have expressed interest in the project, which is currently in the final stages of the accreditation process.

Once accredited, it will offer aspiring dental hygienists a unique educational opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in a real-world clinic setting.

The purchase of advanced imaging and sterilization equipment is expected to significantly enhance the clinic’s capabilities and improve the quality and safety of care. The clinic’s use of cutting-edge technology reflects BSC’s commitment to innovation and excellence in dental education and care.

In addition to providing dental services, BSC’s program aims to contribute to the overall health and well-being of the community by increasing access to dental professionals in areas where dental services are often limited.

Through this initiative, Bismarck State College is not only helping to fill a critical gap in healthcare but also helping to shape the future of dental education in the region.

With the continued support of community partners like the Otto Bremer Trust, Bismarck State College’s Mystical Smile Clinic will have a lasting impact, providing immediate care and long-term well-being for generations to come.
