Northeast Lowa Community College Launches Affordable Dental Clinic for Residents

PEOSTA, Iowa (KCRG) – Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) has opened a new dental clinic to provide affordable care to local residents.

The NICC dental clinic offers services including exams, x-rays, cleanings, and fillings at reduced costs.

Jennifer Kohlmeyer, the clinic coordinator and a faculty member in dental assisting, highlighted the growing need for dental care. She noted that one in four adults aged 35 to 44 have untreated cavities, according to health studies.

“Many people skip dental care because they cannot afford it,” Kohlmeyer said. “If these issues are ignored, they can become serious and sometimes require emergency treatment.”

Health officials say delaying dental care can affect both physical and mental health. Early treatment can lower the risk of heart disease, respiratory infections, and oral complications related to diabetes.

The NICC clinic encourages anyone without dental insurance, or those who haven’t seen a dentist in some time, to schedule an appointment.

“No matter how long it’s been since your last visit, a fresh start is possible,” Kohlmeyer said. “Our clinic offers a welcoming environment focused on learning and gentle care. We are here to help, not judge.”

Appointments are available on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the clinic running from January through March.
