Salter Point Opens $6.1M Dental Clinic for Patients with Special Needs

Salter Point has welcomed the opening of a new $6.1 million dental clinic designed to provide specialized care for people with developmental, intellectual, or physical disabilities.

The clinic aims to make oral health care more accessible to those who face challenges in traditional dental settings.

The State Government noted that some patients struggle with standard dental treatments, such as sitting in a dental chair, swallowing, or following instructions. To address this, the single-level clinic is fully accessible and close to public transportation.

Patients can be assessed in their cars if needed, and the clinic also features a secure outdoor area, providing an alternative waiting space for those who are unable to attend indoor appointments. Soft lighting and noise-reducing materials create a calm and welcoming environment.

Health Minister Meredith Hammat said the clinic ensures that people who require specialized facilities or services can receive necessary dental care.

“This initiative reflects the voices of those who have lived this experience and demonstrates what can be achieved when design, compassion, and clinical excellence come together,” she said.

South Perth MP Geoff Baker emphasized the benefits of the clinic to the broader community. “The facility’s design maximizes local amenities and transport options and will provide significant benefits to Western Australians.

Services were developed based on feedback from those most in need of specialist care, ensuring everyone receives appropriate treatment,” he said.

The clinic’s design was developed in consultation with consumers, carers, clinicians, and accessibility experts to ensure it meets patient needs.
