Sun Life U.S. today unveiled Kid Smile Complete and announced the expansion of its Lifetime of Smiles® dental program, providing innovative solutions for employees and their families to maintain optimal oral health from childhood through adulthood.
The new offerings emphasize preventive dental care for children while removing financial barriers that often prevent families from seeking timely care. Sun Life aims to simplify dental coverage for working families, ensuring children have access to essential services without out-of-pocket costs.
Kid Smile Complete: Preventive Dental Care for Children
Kid Smile Complete provides 100% in-network coverage with no deductible for dependent children under age 13. The plan covers preventive, basic, and major dental services, including exams, cleanings, x-rays, and fillings. By eliminating cost barriers, the program encourages families to prioritize early dental care and prevent tooth decay, a common but preventable condition affecting nearly half of children aged 2 to 19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“When preventive services are fully covered with no out-of-pocket costs, families are significantly more likely to take advantage of them,” said Dr. Todd Gray, Chief Dental Officer at Sun Life U.S. “This ultimately leads to better oral and overall health outcomes, supporting working parents and creating stronger workforces.”
Lifetime of Smiles®: Comprehensive Care Across All Ages
Kid Smile Complete complements the broader Lifetime of Smiles® program, which provides comprehensive dental care for members of all ages. Key features include:
- Advanced preventive care, such as brush biopsies for oral cancer detection and genetic testing for gum disease risk
- Innovative treatments like Periochips to control bacterial growth
- Optional enhancements, including up to four periodontal cleanings annually, posterior tooth-colored fillings, and additional cleanings for patients with pregnancy, heart disease, or diabetes
The program also offers employers flexible plan options such as Preventive Rewards, RollMax, and Preventive Max Waiver®, which extend members’ annual maximum benefits. It is available through Sun Life’s group PPO dental plans, including administrative services only plans.
Supporting Employers and Employees
“Employers are looking for dental solutions that meaningfully support their workforce while delivering measurable value,” said Ryan Bohrer, Vice President of Dental and Vision, Sun Life U.S. “Kid Smile Complete and Lifetime of Smiles demonstrate our commitment to making comprehensive, preventive dental care accessible and affordable. By removing financial barriers and offering flexible benefit options, we’re helping employers attract and retain talent while building healthier, more productive teams.”
Kid Smile Complete and Lifetime of Smiles are part of Sun Life’s ongoing efforts to simplify health and benefits solutions for employers and employees.
