Survey: 70% of British People Unaware of Basic Gum Care

New research shows that about 70% of people in the UK do not know the basics of keeping their gums healthy, and nearly 40% only focus on cleaning their teeth and ignore gum care.

The survey, commissioned by Corsodyl and covering 2,000 adults, found shocking results: 45% of respondents rarely pay attention to gum health, and 74% have never tried to adjust the angle of their toothbrush to clean the gap between gums and teeth.

The study, conducted to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, also found that 40% of respondents brush their teeth for less than 90 seconds on average, and one in 10 people experience bleeding gums every few weeks.

Dr. Kate Fabricant of parent company Haleon stressed that it is urgent to raise public awareness of the importance of gum health, as gum health is as important as teeth.

In addition, one in three adults are unaware that their gums are in poor condition.

Many people experience gum recession or bleeding without realizing that these are signs of gum disease, which are often accompanied by pain and swelling.

Experts call on the public to make gum care a key priority in oral health.
