Oral surgery and implantology are becoming increasingly complex, driven by digital workflows and interfaces. As a result, stand-alone solutions are reaching their limits. Today’s practices require fully integrated, end-to-end systems — a need addressed by the W&H Oral Surgery Compass. Designed as a practical guide, it supports clinicians throughout the entire treatment process, from diagnosis and digital planning to safe execution, monitoring and documentation. The result is a seamlessly connected ecosystem in which devices, software and digital processes work together, enabling predictable outcomes, efficient workflows and a future-ready dental practice.
Image acquisition
A precise diagnosis is the first crucial step in the treatment chain. Only with access to all relevant information can clinicians plan procedures safely and tailor them to individual cases. With Seethrough, W&H offers two forward-looking CBCT units: Seethrough Max and Seethrough Flex, delivering high-resolution panoramic and 3D images. Performance is further enhanced by Seethrough Studio software, which connects directly to ioDent — W&H’s cloud-based platform enabling secure access to imaging data and patient information. “Seethrough Studio supports daily practice with fast, straightforward X-ray imaging and precise adjustments for complex cases. Its intuitive interface ensures all key information is available at a glance,” said Valeria Ferrari, W&H product director.
Treatment planning
With accurate diagnostic data in place, procedures can be planned and prepared effectively. For complex implantology cases, SICAT complements the W&H Oral Surgery workflow with advanced implant planning software. “Our goal is to provide dental professionals with a solution that simplifies daily work — from X-ray imaging and diagnosis to final implant placement,” explained Andreas Brandstätter, product director of oral surgery & implantology. “The 3D implant planning of SICAT Implant is a key component of this workflow,” added Jochen Kusch, managing director of SICAT.
Treatment
Once diagnosis and planning are complete, the next phase is implementation. Implantation data from SICAT Implant is automatically transferred to ioDent, making it directly available on the Implantmed Plus II as recommended settings.
Whether for wisdom tooth extraction, implant placement or apicoectomy, W&H supports clinicians with high-quality devices tailored to each stage of the procedure. The new Implantmed Plus II combines a powerful surgical motor with intelligent features, while the Piezomed module Plus II introduces advanced ultrasound technology into daily practice. Dr Aly Virani noted: “We can now transfer planning data directly to the device, while everything during treatment is automatically documented. This saves significant time, and having all data stored in the cloud is a real game-changer.”
Monitoring and decision support
Seamless monitoring and documentation are essential for implant treatment quality. Using resonance frequency analysis, Osstell Beacon supports the assessment of implant stability and contributes to predictable workflows. “This technology gives us valuable insight into implant conditions and has become essential to our decision-making,” said Dr Joerg Martin-Ruppin.
Documentation
The Implantmed Plus II also enhances documentation. Its integrated scanning function captures implants and biomaterials directly via packaging codes, removing the need for manual records. This data can be used to generate reports such as implant passports or referral documents, ensuring full traceability. “Documentation is much easier — simply scan the materials and everything is recorded. It streamlines daily work for the entire team and supports accurate billing,” said Prof Dr Andreas Stavropoulos.
A compass for tomorrow’s dental practice
“The combination of Implantmed Plus II, Seethrough imaging and cloud-based data creates true end-to-end integration. For the entire practice team, this means more efficient workflows and ultimately more time for patients,” said Dr Aly Virani.
As digital technologies continue to transform dentistry, W&H’s integrated approach ensures each treatment step is efficient, safe and centred on the patient.
