TOPEKA, Kan. – For the fifth consecutive year, a local dentist is giving back to those who served the country by offering free dental care to veterans. Dr. Jeff Larkin, a dentist at Westport Dental Family Dentistry in Topeka, said the event is his way of helping veterans maintain their oral health, especially those who might not have the means to pay for dental treatment.
Dr. Larkin, a veteran himself, served in the United States Air Force. He currently continues his service with the Kansas National Guard as part of the 190th Air Refueling Wing. His personal experience in the military drives his commitment to support fellow veterans, he said during an interview with Eye on NE Kansas. “Providing care for those who served our nation is very meaningful to me,” he explained.
The Veterans Dental Event is designed to help veterans who do not have dental insurance. During the event, participants can receive a variety of dental services, including cleanings, exams, and other treatments, all at no cost. Dr. Larkin and his team want to ensure that veterans have access to essential dental care, which can often be overlooked due to financial challenges.
This year’s event will take place on Friday, Nov. 7, at Westport Dental, located at 2215 SW Westport Drive in Topeka. Veterans interested in receiving care are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance.
Dr. Larkin said the support from his staff and the local community is crucial to the event’s success. Volunteers help manage appointments, assist with procedures, and ensure that every veteran receives personalized attention during their visit. Over the past four years, dozens of veterans have benefited from the event, receiving care that improves both their oral health and overall well-being.
