Tori Spelling, 52, recently shared her struggles with public scrutiny regarding her appearance. During a conversation on her MisSpelling podcast with Dr. Terry Dubrow on March 9, the actress reflected on how hurtful rumors about her cosmetic procedures have been over the years.
Spelling recalled a tabloid spreading rumors in the ’90s, claiming she had undergone cheek implants and chin surgery while starring in Beverly Hills, 90210. At the time, she had only received a nose job, but the rumors stayed with her.
“I was just 17, and they said I had all this plastic surgery,” Spelling explained. “It’s something that stayed in my mind for years.”
The actress went on to describe the rise of social media criticism, calling it “horrific.” She revealed that even at 52, people frequently comment on her appearance, particularly accusing her of using too much filler. “I purposely try to avoid those comments, but sometimes I want to clarify that I’ve had Botox, not filler,” Spelling said. “I can’t win.”
Spelling also opened up about her past breast augmentation at 19, admitting she had the procedure done at a strip mall. “It was an outpatient surgery center, and I was confused. But I did it anyway,” she recalled. Spelling later had a second breast augmentation to address health concerns.
Despite undergoing surgery, Spelling still faces harsh criticism about her appearance, especially regarding a condition known as pectus excavatum, which causes a sunken breastbone. “People call it a ‘gap’ in my chest, but it’s a bone condition, not something that can be fixed,” she explained. “It’s just me.”
Spelling’s candid remarks about the pressures of beauty standards and cosmetic procedures reveal the toll social media criticism takes on celebrities, even those who have lived in the public eye for decades.
