Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) has officially opened its new Clinical Training Center in Albuquerque, marking the launch of New Mexico’s first pre-doctoral dental program.
Located on the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute campus, the 70,000-square-foot center houses over 100 dental units and serves as both a training ground for students and a platform for local residents to access affordable healthcare.
Dr. Alan Kadish, President of Touro College, said the program combines high-quality education with convenient access. “Our first 100 students are currently treating patients in Albuquerque while gaining valuable clinical experience,” he noted.
Due to limited dental services in New Mexico—only 48.4 dentists per 100,000 people, well below the national average of 60.8—the center aims to address this gap.
Under the guidance of faculty, students will provide examinations and treatments at a lower cost, helping patients who often face months-long waits or otherwise struggle to afford care.
Dr. Ronnie Myers, Dean of TCDM, emphasized the school’s mission: “We are committed to providing high-quality, affordable dental care to people of all ages and income levels while training the next generation of dental professionals.”
This $40 million project not only brings a state-of-the-art clinic but also new employment and educational opportunities. Students will receive general dental and specialty training, while licensed professionals can pursue continuing education.
Dr. Tom Schripsema, Executive Director of the New Mexico Dental Association, welcomed the opening of the new campus, calling it “an important step in supporting a diverse community and cultivating future dental providers.”
Residents seeking care can schedule an appointment by calling 505-658-8236. Services are available in English and Spanish.
Touro’s expansion builds on the success of its New York campus, bringing the same academic support, faculty resources, and community-focused philosophy to New Mexico.
