University of Saskatchewan Opens New State-of-the-Art Dental Clinic to Improve Community Access and Student Training

The University of Saskatchewan celebrated a major milestone on May 1 with the opening of its newly renovated dental clinic. The $24-million project was supported by the Government of Saskatchewan and corporate donors. The upgraded clinic is designed to improve dental education and provide better access to oral health services for the community.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony included the Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Advanced Education, and USask President Vince Bruni-Bossio. They marked the opening as a significant achievement for both the university and the province’s healthcare system.

The original clinic, built in the 1970s and last upgraded in the 1990s, needed a full modernization. The renovated facility now features advanced equipment for both clinical practice and pre-clinical learning. Students will train with new simulation technologies, digital imaging systems, and modern treatment units that reflect current dental practices.

As a community resource, the dental clinic will provide affordable care to local residents. Students in dentistry, dental therapy, dental hygiene, and dental assisting programs will treat patients under the guidance of licensed faculty. This hands-on training ensures students gain real-world experience while serving the community.

The new technologies in the clinic are expected to improve patient care, reduce treatment times, and increase efficiency. The clinic anticipates being able to serve up to 20 percent more patients each year, making dental care more accessible to residents across the province.

In addition to patient services, the upgraded dental clinic will support innovative teaching and research. The facility will allow USask to expand its dental programs, add specialty training, and accommodate more students. This renovation strengthens the university’s role in advancing health sciences education and improving oral health in Saskatchewan.
