KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Volunteer Ministry Center (VMC) Dental Clinic has announced a new partnership with Lincoln Memorial University aimed at expanding access to dental care while providing hands-on training for dental students.
Under the agreement, dental students from LMU will participate in Community-Based Dental Education courses at VMC, working alongside trained professionals before entering the workforce. The clinic will be supervised by Dr. John Osborn of House Mountain Dentistry.
VMC has served Knoxville’s unhoused and low-income residents since 1998. Through the partnership, the clinic will continue offering essential services, including fillings, extractions, cleanings, and the provision and repair of dentures.
“These services not only address dental pain and improve overall health, but also empower patients to take steps toward stability, including seeking employment and permanent housing,” VMC said in a press release.
The Dental Clinic provides free care to eligible Knox County residents who meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s criteria for “extremely low” income or who are considered literally homeless under HUD standards.
The clinic is typically open on Mondays, though hours may vary. All services are delivered by volunteer dental professionals who donate their time and expertise to support VMC’s mission.
