Local dentists across Wyoming have come together to offer free dental care to veterans through a new community initiative. The event, called Saluting Smiles: Donated Dental Care for Veterans, was organized by the Wyoming Dental Association’s South Central District. It involved 11 dental offices from the cities of Laramie, Cheyenne, and Torrington.
During this event, more than 100 veterans received essential dental services at no cost. The total value of these treatments was over $67,800. Veterans had access to a variety of procedures, including routine cleanings, diagnostic imaging, fillings, crowns, extractions, denture adjustments, and other specialized services. Emergency care was also available for those most in need.
Sandy McFarland, deputy director of the Wyoming Veterans Commission, said that the care given to veterans extended beyond just dental health. She noted that the program represented not only time and skills generously donated by the dental offices, but a real dedication to serving those who have served the country.
The event also provided oral hygiene supplies and educational materials, thanks to support from Henry Schein Cares and Colgate. Organizers wanted veterans to leave equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to maintain their oral health long after the appointments.
Officials say this inaugural event is only the beginning. As veterans continue to need assistance after their military service, programs like Saluting Smiles demonstrate how local communities can help fill important gaps in care. Organizers plan to continue these efforts, showing their appreciation not only with words but through ongoing service and support.
