Yeshiva University will open its new College of Dental Medicine (YUCDM) in Jul, marking the first dental school to launch in New York City in more than a century. The accelerated three-year programme, announced in 2024, will admit 150 students in its inaugural intake and award a doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S.) degree.

Located at the Katz School of Science and Health in midtown Manhattan, the school will feature an on-site dental clinic serving hundreds of patients daily while providing students with hands-on clinical training throughout their studies.

A university spokesperson said the programme is designed to educate the next generation of dentists to deliver “exceptional, ethical and patient-centred care”, while advancing the field through innovation and technology. Its central location will also give students access to a large and diverse patient population, supporting extensive clinical exposure.

Founding dean Edward Farkas said there is growing need for new dental schools, particularly as many dentists approach retirement age. The new programme aims to help address this demand while expanding access to dental education.

The school has received accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation and will incorporate advanced technologies, including digital dentistry simulation and a 3D printing lab for implant dentistry. Students will gain clinical experience across multiple specialties, including paediatrics, orthodontics and oral surgery.

Tuition and fees are set at $126,500 per year, with total estimated annual costs reaching approximately $178,000 including living expenses.

Rabbi Dr Ari Berman, president of Yeshiva University, described the launch as “a defining moment for healthcare education”, adding that the school aims to train dentists equipped with both technical expertise and a strong sense of responsibility to the communities they serve.
