The Libby Dental Practice in Anchorage Provided Free Care on Community Dental Day

At 66 years old, Register is still working but has no dental benefits. She can’t afford new dentures, making her an excellent candidate for Community Dental Day sponsored by the Libby Dental Group in Anchorage. On this special day, dozens of residents from across the city were able to receive free dental care, ranging from routine cleanings to minor restorative procedures.

Community Dental Day is part of the Libby Dental Group’s ongoing commitment to improving oral health access for underserved populations. “Dental care shouldn’t be a luxury,” said Dr. Linda Parker, the clinic’s lead dentist. “Many people delay treatment because of cost, which can lead to severe problems like gum disease, tooth loss, and chronic pain. Our goal is to make sure everyone can get the care they need, regardless of their financial situation.”

Register arrived early in the morning, greeted by a team of dentists, dental hygienists, and volunteers ready to assist patients. She received a dental examination, cleaning, and advice on maintaining oral hygiene with limited resources. “I’m so grateful,” Register said. “I’ve been struggling for years with my teeth, and today I finally feel like I have hope for a healthy smile again.”

The event also included educational sessions on topics such as proper brushing and flossing techniques, nutrition’s role in oral health, and recognizing the early signs of dental disease. Volunteers emphasized that preventive care is crucial for avoiding more serious issues later in life, including gum disease, sensitive teeth, and infections that can affect overall health.

Organizers noted that the event is part of a larger effort to address oral health disparities in Anchorage, where many residents face barriers to care. “We hope to inspire other dental practices to host similar events,” said Dr. Parker. “Oral health is integral to overall well-being, and initiatives like this make a real difference in people’s lives.”

By the end of the day, dozens of patients left with improved dental health and a renewed sense of confidence. For Register, the experience was transformative. “It’s more than just dental care,” she said. “It’s about dignity, self-esteem, and feeling cared for by your community.”
