Veterans Receive Free Dental Care During Freedom Day USA

VIRGINIA — Virginia Family Dental celebrated its 9th annual Freedom Day USA, providing free dental care to more than 30 veterans. Services included routine cleanings, fillings, and more complex procedures, offering crucial support to those who have served.

Jason Johnson, a veteran from Embarrass, shared his gratitude. “These guys are great. As a disabled vet living up here, we often have to drive five and a half hours to get to the VA for this,” he said. Johnson noted he had been seeking dental assistance for a decade.

Staff at Virginia Family Dental spend the entire year preparing for the event, managing calls and scheduling appointments to ensure smooth operations.

Fanci Williams, a licensed dental assistant, described the day as rewarding. “It’s just such an awesome day. We get to hear their stories, and it’s good to give back,” she said.

Freedom Day USA is a national initiative promoting the message, “A day of free for our lifetime of freedom.” The program encourages dental offices nationwide to offer complimentary care to veterans as a way to honor their service.

This year, the effort expanded to include Grand Dental Center in Grand Rapids, which also provided free dental services to local veterans.

By bringing dental care directly to veterans, Freedom Day USA addresses a critical need, particularly for those who face long travel distances to reach Veterans Affairs facilities. The event not only improves oral health but also strengthens community support for service members.

Organizers and volunteers emphasized the personal impact of the day. Beyond the clinical work, staff had the chance to connect with veterans, hear their experiences, and express appreciation for their sacrifices.

Freedom Day USA continues to grow, uniting dental professionals and communities across the country in service to veterans.
