BRUSSELS — More than 60% of dentists in Belgium have fully or partially agreed to the 2026–2027 tariff framework, the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV) reported.
The agreement, negotiated between dentists and health insurers, aims to provide stable tariffs for patients in the coming years. Dentists had until March 11 to decide whether to adhere to its terms. Preliminary figures show that 60.48% of practitioners nationwide have signed on, either fully or partially.
Known as the ‘National Agreement,’ the deal outlines permitted tariffs for participating dentists and introduces measures to make dental care more accessible. It also includes initiatives to improve job satisfaction among dental professionals.
The agreement launches a transition period during which a commission will review the dental nomenclature in 2026 and 2027. The goal is to set fair fees for all services and ensure remuneration reflects current professional standards.
Implementation of the agreement will depend on adherence levels at both national and local levels. Final results will be presented to the National Dentists–Health Insurers Commission and the Insurance Committee and published on the RIZIV website.
