Dental Clinic Expands School Program with Veteran Dentist to Serve More Children

TROY — The Miami County Dental Clinic (MCDC) has added Dr. Steve Ritzi, a dentist with 36 years of experience, to its Traveling Smiles school-based program, allowing the initiative to reach more students across the county.

Traveling Smiles brings preventive and restorative dental care directly to Miami County schools. Using mobile equipment, the team provides exams, cleanings, X-rays, sealants, and restorative treatments. The program’s goal is to remove barriers to care by treating children at school, helping them stay healthy and ready to learn.

Since its launch in 2012, Traveling Smiles has grown steadily, attracting more schools and families seeking convenient dental care. With Dr. Ritzi joining Dr. Keira Ankrom, the program will now offer services in local schools three to four days per week.

The team is led by Coordinator Gail Newhouse, supported by Coordinator Assistant Ellie Mancini, Dental Assistant Paige Burrell, and Dental Hygienist Angie Reynolds. Together, they work with schools to schedule visits and deliver care to students enrolled in the program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ritzi to the Traveling Smiles team,” said Stephanie Waller, executive director of the Miami County Dental Clinic. “His addition enables us to expand services and help more children maintain their oral health, confidence, and readiness to learn.”

To support program growth, MCDC is seeking an additional dental assistant. Interested applicants can contact Coordinator Gail Newhouse or Executive Director Stephanie Waller.
