Barrera Advanced Dentistry has fully transitioned to digital impressions for restorative care, replacing traditional impression materials with the Dexis IOS Intraoral Scanner across all applicable treatments.
Led by Dr. Adriana Barrera, the Torrance-based dental practice now uses the scanner for crowns, onlays and nightguards, allowing precise digital scans to be transmitted to dental laboratories within seconds. The shift has reduced turnaround times to about one week, compared with the traditional two to three weeks required for physical impressions.
The Dexis IOS Intraoral Scanner captures high-resolution, three-dimensional images of teeth and oral structures through a quick, non-invasive process. By eliminating impression trays and putty-like materials, the technology improves patient comfort while enhancing clinical accuracy.
“Digital scanning has changed how we deliver restorative dentistry,” Dr. Barrera said. “Patients are more comfortable, and the accuracy of the scans results in restorations that fit better and require fewer adjustments.”
According to the practice, the scanner’s lightweight design and wide field of view allow full-arch scans to be completed in minutes, reducing chair time. Its deep focus capabilities also support detailed imaging in hard-to-reach areas, helping ensure restorations fit correctly on the first attempt.
The digital workflow is used for a range of treatments, including crowns for damaged or decayed teeth, onlays that preserve more natural tooth structure, and custom nightguards for patients with bruxism or temporomandibular joint concerns. The practice says the precision of digital scans supports improved long-term outcomes for patients.
Barrera Advanced Dentistry continues to invest in advanced technology as part of its commitment to modern, patient-centered care for the South Bay community. The practice combines digital tools with Dr. Barrera’s more than two decades of clinical experience.
Dr. Barrera earned her dental degree from Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, Colombia, where she also completed a prosthodontics residency.
