Visitors to the Komet USA booth at Yankee Dental Congress were treated to some impressive demonstrations Friday afternoon from Roberto Rossi, the founder and president of Synergy Dental Ceramics.
Rossi was on hand to show how some of Komet’s many carbides, diamonds, and polishers can help clinicians and lab technicians deliver great restorations. In one hands-on presentation he showed how the new ETNA Grinders and Polishers are used for full ceramic restorations.
“They are very useful for in-house laboratory, for laboratory in general, and for dentists in their office when they’re doing occlusal adjustment in their office, contacts, etc., etc.” said Rossi. “As we know, it’s very important for all ceramic restorations to be handled properly, especially after grinding it with diamonds. We want to make sure that we use the proper wheels to polish it and bring it back to the luster of the glaze that originally was delivered.”
He told attendees that he loves using the ETNA instruments in the lab, but also wanted dentists to be aware that they are also useful in the dental offices.
Rossie demonstrated adjustments on a zirconia restoration and explained how these Komet diamond burs and polishers deliver optimal results. “As you can see, it just gives you that beautiful, clean and lifelike material back in zirconia,” he explained. “So, obviously you can go from that to the next one. We will give even more of the natural appearance to it.”
This process not only makes the restoration look as natural as possible, but also saves from internal fractures caused by diamonds. Restorations not only will look better, but will last longer, Rossi said.
Using paste and Komet wheels can enhance the aesthetics even more. “This wheel is pretty amazing, because it will polish it. It will give the proper finishing touch to the zirconia or to the [IPS] e.max, whichever material you use,” he said.
This method also is great when you want to make sure that your temporaries are nice and polished so they can be very adapted to the soft tissue, and create a better foundation for when the impression needs to be taken again, he added.
“You could polish them with this wheel and get these results, which I have experienced, incredible results with soft tissues adaptation to this,” he said.
The demonstrated showed how restorations look coming out of the mill, and how easily they can be finished “with just a little touch of this wheel and a little paste.”
