NationsBenefits has launched NationsDental™, a new platform aimed at modernising dental insurance delivery by integrating payments, claims, and eligibility processes into a single system.
Developed in partnership with AI firm LightSpun, the platform seeks to address long-standing inefficiencies in the dental sector, where fragmented systems and manual workflows have created administrative burdens and limited access to care.
According to a 2024 CDC report, nearly 27% of U.S. adults have untreated dental decay or lack adequate preventive care. NationsBenefits said the new platform is designed to help close this gap by reducing operational friction, which is estimated to cost the healthcare system $21 billion annually.
NationsDental combines payment processing, member identification, eligibility verification, and claims administration into one integrated infrastructure. The company said this approach enables faster transactions, improves transparency, and simplifies interactions for patients, providers, and insurers.
Michael Parker, co-CEO of NationsBenefits, said the platform aims to replace outdated processes with real-time capabilities. “Dental benefits have long been hindered by fragmented systems and administrative inefficiencies,” he said. “This platform simplifies the experience and supports better access and health outcomes.”
The system uses AI-driven claims validation from LightSpun to reduce errors and speed up reimbursements. NationsBenefits said claims that previously took weeks can now be processed in seconds, while automation also reduces claim denials linked to eligibility issues.
The platform also streamlines coordination of benefits, cutting resolution times from as long as 16 days to near-instant processing.
Industry research continues to highlight the link between oral health and overall health. A 2025 scientific statement from the American Heart Association found that preventing and treating periodontal disease can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. NationsBenefits said improving access to dental care could therefore help lower broader healthcare costs, particularly for patients with chronic conditions.
Shaju Puthussery, co-founder and CEO of LightSpun, said the partnership focuses on eliminating inefficiencies in claims processing. “We are reducing delays and errors in real time, helping build a more reliable foundation for dental care,” he said.
The platform is expected to be particularly relevant for Medicare Advantage and D-SNP plans, where patients often face greater barriers to accessing dental services. NationsDental will be offered through both administrative services-only and capitated funding models, allowing insurers to choose the structure that best fits their needs.
