Florida Dentist Under Investigation After Washington License Revoked and Name Change

A Miami dentist is under investigation by the Florida Department of Health after allegations surfaced about his professional conduct in Washington and a subsequent change of name. The dentist, now known as Sidney Solomon Moritz, was previously called Sandy Fletcher Montano. This investigation follows the indefinite suspension of his dental license in Washington due to multiple infection control violations, including using items from the trash and not maintaining proper cleanliness in his office.

The administrative complaint filed by Florida authorities also notes Moritz’s failure to notify the state about his Washington license suspension within the required 30-day period. Officials were troubled not just by the license suspension but also by Moritz’s business activities in Florida. While still using his previous name, Sandy Montano, he worked at and co-owned Majestic Family Dental Clinic Inc. with his mother, Marina Montano, who is not a licensed dentist. Florida law prohibits dentists from practicing in business arrangements with non-dentists, which is now part of the disciplinary action.

Records show that Moritz obtained his Florida dental license in late 2016 and has no prior disciplinary actions on that license. However, his Washington license, acquired in 2015, became the center of controversy after complaints of patient safety and improper hygienic practices were investigated by the state’s Dental Quality Assurance Commission. These included using dirty gloves, mixing incorrect gels, employing an unlicensed dental assistant, and refusing a health inspector access to his office.

Washington authorities considered the violations an immediate threat to patient safety, resulting in an initial suspension in June 2022. Moritz responded by requesting hearings, but after repeatedly postponing proceedings and ultimately failing to appear, his suspension became indefinite starting in April 2024. Two months before his final requested continuance, he filed for a name change in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, officially transitioning to Sidney Solomon Moritz in February 2024.

Despite the name change on his Florida health license, corporate paperwork for ‘Dr. S & F’ and Majestic Family Dental Clinic still lists the old name. The Florida Department of Health continues its disciplinary process, which could range from clearing Moritz of wrongdoing to revoking his license. His legal team has declined to comment, citing the ongoing nature of the inquiries.
