La Union Launches Free Medical Mission Offering Dental Services and Surgeries

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — To improve healthcare access, the provincial government of La Union will hold a free medical, dental, and surgical mission from February 1 to 6, 2026, at Bacnotan District Hospital. The program aims to provide timely care to residents who have delayed treatment due to cost, distance, or lack of specialists.

The mission targets preventable health complications by offering early diagnosis, treatment, and surgical intervention for patients whose conditions have worsened after postponing care. Services include major and minor surgeries, dental treatments, pediatric consultations, and optical assistance, allowing residents to address multiple health needs in one visit.

Provincial Health Officer Herminigildo Velasco emphasized the importance of preventive care. “Many of our kababayans postpone operations because of cost. Through this mission, we can help them seek treatment earlier and prevent complications, especially in cases involving lumps or tumors,” he said.

To ensure patient safety, pre-screening and medical clearance will be conducted. Early assessment helps doctors detect conditions like tumors at manageable stages, preventing serious complications.

Residents are encouraged to register at their local Rural Health Units for screening, although walk-in patients will also be accommodated. Patients scheduled for major surgeries should bring prior medical results to support proper evaluation.

The provincial government, in coordination with local units, will provide transportation assistance for patients traveling to Bacnotan District Hospital.

The medical mission is part of La Union’s Agkaysa program, which promotes collaboration among government agencies and partners to deliver essential social services. Supported by the Canadian Medical Mission Society, the initiative aligns with the national go
