NANAIMO — For many, a visit to the dentist triggers anxiety, from the sharp sound of drills to the discomfort of needles. But patients at Seven Sails Dental Centre can now experience a gentler alternative thanks to Dr. Michel Séguin, who has introduced a cutting-edge laser technology he calls a “game-changer.”
A family dentist who once feared the dentist himself, Dr. Séguin has long aimed to make dental visits more comfortable. After years of research, his clinic became the first in Nanaimo to adopt this innovative laser system.
Unlike traditional drills, the laser uses light to vaporize tissue at a microscopic level. The process generates no heat, is often needle-free, and typically pain-free.
Procedures that once required anesthesia can now be completed more quickly, from routine cavities to complex root canals and soft-tissue surgeries, such as tongue-tie corrections.
Patients report positive experiences, often leaving surprised at the minimal discomfort. “They’re in and out faster and recover more quickly,” Dr. Séguin said.
The dentist hopes the technology will reshape perceptions of dental care in Nanaimo, offering a safer, more comfortable option for patients. “I want people to know this effective alternative is available to them,” he added.
